What is the difference between the QuanG2 and the QuanTEdu/QuantAlps programs?
All three are research and training programs in quantum science and technology, but they differ in their funding sources and main actions:
-
QuanG2 is funded by the European Commission under the MSCA Cofund program.
-
QuanTEdu-France is funded by the ANR as part of the France 2030 program.
-
QuantAlps is funded by the University Grenoble Alpes through the ANR IDEX program.
Why are there two selection processes: one for QuanG2 and one for QuanTEdu/QuantAlps?
To optimize financial and human resources, we run a single joint call for all three programs. However, each program has different eligibility criteria due to their respective funders.
To comply with the rules of each program, it was decided to have two selection tracks: one for QuanG2 and one for QuanTEdu/QuantAlps.
I am a candidate, but I am not sure which program I should apply to...

QuanG2 is designed for international candidates due to the mobility rule. You must not have spent more than 12 months in France between 15 March 2023 and 16 March 2026. Additionally, you must have a Master’s degree before 16 March 2026. If you meet these criteria, check the available PhD subjects, and if at least one interests you, you should apply to QuanG2.

QuanTEdu/QuantAlps are designed for local candidates in the Grenoble area. There are no mobility restrictions, and you can apply as long as you obtain your Master’s degree before starting your PhD contract (i.e., between October 2026 and January 2027). To apply, you must design a PhD topic with a local researcher from one of our labs. Note that this PhD topic must not already be listed on the website.
What happens if a candidate will graduate after the stated eligibility date? Can they still apply for the program if their graduation is slightly later than the required date?
Candidates must have completed their master degree before the stated eligibility deadline. Unfortunately, this deadline is strict and cannot be extended, as it is imposed by the program’s funder. Applications from candidates graduating after this date cannot be considered.
Can a QuanG2 candidate and a QuanTEdu/QuantAlps candidate apply for the same PhD topic?
No. QuanG2 candidates apply to topics that have been made publicly available online since 16 January. QuanTEdu/QuantAlps candidates can only apply with a new, original topic that they have developed together with their supervisor.
